Winter has arrived more or less overnight with low temperatures and snowfall right down to the valleys. That gives the 5 Tirolean glaciers a glittering start to the season.

Winter just couldn't wait and has come to the Tirol in mid-October. No one expected it this early and this vigorously, but everyone is pleased. It can only mean one thing – out with your skis! The skiing season is now starting on the 5 Tirolean glaciers and fresh snow is simply indispensable for a glamorous start to the winter. That has come – and winter sports enthusiasts are deliriously happy. 150 cm of fresh snow have been measured on the Hintertuxer glacier, 49 cm in Solden and St. Anton am Arlberg is also experiencing a foretaste of winter.

The 5 Tirolean glaciers are starting on the winter season
Those who enjoy winter events should make a note of the 5 Tirolean glacier openings in their appointments diary: on the Hintertux glacier the start of the winter season was celebrated the first weekend in October and from 9 to 11.10 the legendary powder weekend was celebrated there with an extensive apres-ski programme and the ultimate in piste pleasures. Next weekend, i.e. from 23 to 25.10, it is Solden's turn to get in the grip of the international skiing sport. As every year, the "FIS Ski World Cup Opening Solden" is awaited with excitement. On the Kaunertal glacier the winter season has been underway since mid-September. The first event, the legendary "Kaunertal Opening", will be held this coming weekend from 16 to 18.10. At the opening in the "Snow Park Moreboards Stubai Zoo" from 23 to 25.10.2009 a really cool park session is on the agenda together with a BBQ, a concert with high-calibre line-up and pure partying. From 21 to 27.11.2009 the Pitztaler glacier will be the scene of the 40th WSV seasonal opening. That week the West German Skiing Association will be holding events galore, e.g. a chalet evening, a disco night or courses for beginners and those returning to the sport.
